As of 2023, Alabama no longer requires a state permit or background check to carry a concealed handgun in public, joining over two dozen other 'Constitutional Carry' states.

Rights & Rules

    If you are 18 or older and not legally prohibited from owning a firearm, you can carry a concealed handgun without a pistol permit.
  • 02.
    If you are pulled over by a police officer, you are legally required to immediately inform the officer if you have a loaded handgun in the vehicle.
  • 03.
    You do not have a right to carry a gun on private property if the owner has posted a sign prohibiting firearms.
  • 04.
    You cannot carry a weapon into secure facilities like courthouses, police stations, prisons, or psychiatric facilities.

Penalties

  • 01.
    Failure to disclose the presence of a concealed weapon to a police officer during a traffic stop is a Class A misdemeanor.
