Summary
Alaska has some of the most permissive marijuana laws in the U.S., largely due to the state's strong constitutional right to privacy within the home.
Rights & Rules
- 01.Adults 21+ can legally possess up to 1 ounce of marijuana outside their home.
- 02.Because of the 'Ravin doctrine' (a Supreme Court privacy ruling), you can legally possess up to 4 ounces of marijuana inside your private home.
- 03.You can legally grow up to 6 marijuana plants (with no more than 3 mature at a time) in a private, secure location out of public view.
- 04.It remains a criminal offense to consume marijuana in public spaces like streets, parks, or bars.
Penalties
- 01.Smoking in public can result in a $100 fine.
- 02.Possessing more than 4 ounces in your home, or more than 1 ounce in public, is a class A misdemeanor punishable by up to 1 year in jail.
