Arizona Smart and Safe Act (Prop 207)

Summary

Proposition 207 legalized the recreational use, possession, and cultivation of marijuana for adults aged 21 and older in Arizona.

Rights & Rules

  • 01.
    Adults 21+ can legally possess up to 1 ounce of marijuana, with no more than 5 grams being in the form of marijuana concentrate.
  • 02.
    You can legally grow up to 6 marijuana plants at your primary residence (maximum of 12 plants per household with two or more adults).
  • 03.
    Plants must be grown in an enclosed area equipped with a lock or other security device, out of public view.
  • 04.
    Employers still have the legal right to maintain a drug-free workplace and can fire you for testing positive for marijuana.

Penalties

  • 01.
    Possessing more than 1 ounce but less than 2.5 ounces is a petty offense (like a traffic ticket). Possessing larger amounts remains a felony.
  • 02.
    Smoking marijuana in a public place or open space remains illegal and is treated as a petty offense.
