Summary

Drivers are prohibited from holding or operating a wireless telephone or electronic communication device unless it is used in a hands-free manner.

Rights & Rules

    You may use a device if it is mounted on the dashboard or windshield in a way that does not block your view.

    You are allowed to use a single swipe or tap to activate or deactivate a feature on a mounted device.

    Emergency services calls are exempt from the hands-free requirement.

Penalties

    A base fine of $20 for the first offense.
  • 02.
    A base fine of $50 for subsequent offenses.
  • 03.
    Additional court assessments can increase the total cost significantly.
