Security Deposit Return Rules in California

In California, landlords must return your security deposit within 21 days of you moving out. They must provide an itemized list of any deductions and receipts for repairs over $125.

    Your landlord has exactly 21 calendar days after you move out to return your deposit.

    Landlords cannot charge for 'normal wear and tear' (like slight carpet fading or small scuffs).
