Summary

Voted in by citizens in 2020, the FAMLI program guarantees most Colorado workers up to 12 weeks of paid, job-protected time off for major life events.

Rights & Rules

  • 01.
    You can take up to 12 weeks of paid leave to care for a new child, care for a seriously ill family member, care for your own serious health condition, or secure safety from domestic violence.
  • 02.
    You can get an additional 4 weeks (16 weeks total) if you experience complications related to pregnancy or childbirth.
  • 03.
    The program pays up to 90% of your wages (capped at $1,100 per week in 2024).
  • 04.
    You and your employer split a small payroll tax (0.9% of wages) to fund the program.

Penalties

  • 01.
    If you have been at your job for at least 180 days, your employer MUST give you your job back when you return. Firing you is illegal and subjects the employer to civil lawsuits and state fines.
