Summary

Connecticut legalized the recreational use, possession, and retail sale of cannabis for adults 21 and older, while also automatically erasing hundreds of thousands of past low-level marijuana convictions.

Rights & Rules

  • 01.
    Adults 21+ can legally possess up to 1.5 ounces of marijuana on their person, and up to 5 ounces locked in a glovebox or safe at home.
  • 02.
    You can legally grow up to 3 mature and 3 immature cannabis plants in your home, provided they are in a secure location out of public view.
  • 03.
    You cannot smoke or vape marijuana in state parks, on beaches, on the water, or anywhere that tobacco smoking is prohibited.
  • 04.
    If you were convicted of possessing less than 4 ounces of marijuana between 2000 and 2015, your record is automatically wiped clean by the state.

Penalties

  • 01.
    Smoking in a prohibited area can result in a $250 fine. Possessing more than the legal 5-ounce limit without a medical card remains a misdemeanor.
