FDCPA: Validation of Debts
Summary
Within five days of first contact, a collector must send a written notice stating the amount of debt and the creditor's name.
Rights & Rules
- 01.You have 30 days to dispute the debt in writing.
- 02.You have the right to request the name and address of the original creditor.
- 03.Collection must stop until the collector provides verification if you dispute it within 30 days.
Penalties
- 01.Civil liability for non-compliance.
