Florida Ban on Lab-Grown Meat
Summary
In 2024, Florida became the first U.S. state to completely ban the manufacturing, sale, or distribution of cultivated meat (meat grown in a lab from animal cells rather than slaughtered animals).
Rights & Rules
- 01.You cannot legally buy 'lab-grown' or 'cultivated' meat at any grocery store or restaurant in Florida.
- 02.Companies are forbidden from manufacturing or producing cultivated meat anywhere within the state borders.
- 03.The state government claimed the ban was necessary to protect the traditional cattle and agriculture industries from a 'global elite' agenda.
- 04.Note: This law bans meat grown from cells; it does NOT ban plant-based meat alternatives like Beyond Meat or Impossible Burgers.
Penalties
- 01.Any business that manufactures, sells, or distributes cultivated meat commits a second-degree misdemeanor. The state can immediately suspend the business's food establishment license.
