Georgia Election Integrity Act (SB 202)
Summary
The Election Integrity Act of 2021 made sweeping changes to Georgia's voting laws, including new ID requirements for absentee ballots and strict rules around drop boxes.
Rights & Rules
- 01.You MUST provide a Georgia driver's license number, state ID number, or a copy of another valid ID when requesting and returning an absentee (mail-in) ballot.
- 02.The window to request an absentee ballot is shorter: you must request it at least 11 days before the election.
- 03.Drop boxes are legally required in every county, but they must be located inside an election office or early voting location and can only be used during normal voting hours.
- 04.It is a misdemeanor crime for political organizations or individuals to hand out food or water to voters waiting in line within 150 feet of a polling place (poll workers can still provide self-serve water stations).
Penalties
- 01.Handing out food or water to voters in line ('line warming') is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
