Summary

Idaho law prohibits employers from requiring employees to join a labor union or pay union dues as a condition of getting or keeping a job.

Rights & Rules

  • 01.
    You have the absolute right to refuse to join a union.
  • 02.
    An employer cannot deny you a job because you are not a union member.
  • 03.
    An employer cannot fire you because you quit a union.
  • 04.
    You cannot be forced to pay 'agency fees' or any portion of union dues if you choose not to join, even if the union represents your entire workplace.

Penalties

  • 01.
    Any employer or union who violates this law commits a misdemeanor. The injured employee can sue for damages, including lost wages and attorney's fees.
