Maine legalized the recreational use, possession, and cultivation of marijuana in 2016, and has one of the most generous home-grow allowances in the country.

Rights & Rules

  • 01.
    Adults 21 and older can legally possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana, including up to 5 grams of marijuana concentrate.
  • 02.
    You can legally grow up to 3 mature marijuana plants, 12 immature plants, and an unlimited number of seedlings at your home.
  • 03.
    You must tag every single plant with your name, driver's license number, and the notation that the plant is for personal use.
  • 04.
    You cannot consume marijuana in public places or while driving.

Penalties

  • 01.
    Smoking in public is a civil violation that carries a $100 fine. Exceeding the generous plant limit can result in serious felony trafficking/cultivation charges.
