Living up to its motto 'Live Free or Die,' New Hampshire is the only state in the country that does not require adults to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle or a seatbelt while driving a car.

Rights & Rules

  • 01.
    If you are 18 years of age or older, you do NOT legally have to wear a helmet while riding or driving a motorcycle.
  • 02.
    If you are 18 years of age or older, you do NOT legally have to wear a seatbelt while operating or riding in a motor vehicle.
  • 03.
    If you are under 18, the state requires you to wear both a motorcycle helmet and a car seatbelt.

Penalties

  • 01.
    Operating a motorcycle without a helmet if you are under 18 is a traffic violation leading to a fine.
