Summary

Effective in 2021, Ohio expanded its self-defense laws to remove the requirement that a person must retreat before using force in any place they are lawfully present.

Rights & Rules

    You are not required to try to escape before using force in a public place where you are allowed to be.

    The burden of proof is on the prosecution to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you did not act in self-defense.
