Summary
In November 2023, Ohio voters passed Issue 2, legalizing the recreational use and home cultivation of marijuana for adults 21 and older.
Rights & Rules
- 01.Adults 21 and older can legally possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana flower and up to 15 grams of marijuana extract/concentrate.
- 02.You can legally grow up to 6 marijuana plants at your primary residence (maximum of 12 plants per household if there are two or more adults living there).
- 03.Plants must be grown in a secured area out of public view.
- 04.Landlords still have the legal right to prohibit tenants from smoking or growing marijuana on their property.
Penalties
- 01.Smoking marijuana in a public place remains a minor misdemeanor.
- 02.Because this was passed as a statutory initiative (not a constitutional amendment), the Ohio state legislature retains the power to change or repeal parts of the law, which they are currently debating.
