Ohio Constitutional Carry Law (SB 215)

Summary

As of 2022, Ohio is a 'Constitutional Carry' state. Eligible adults can carry a concealed handgun without needing a license or taking mandatory safety training.

Rights & Rules

  • 01.
    If you are 21 or older and legally allowed to possess a firearm under state and federal law, you can carry a concealed handgun in Ohio without a permit.
  • 02.
    You are no longer required to take 8 hours of firearms training or undergo a background check to carry concealed.
  • 03.
    If you are pulled over by the police, you do NOT have to immediately announce that you have a loaded gun in the car, UNLESS the officer specifically asks you.
  • 04.
    You still cannot carry a gun in schools, courthouses, police stations, or private businesses that have posted 'No Guns' signs.

Penalties

  • 01.
    If a police officer asks if you have a weapon and you lie or fail to disclose it, you can be charged with a second-degree misdemeanor.
