Oregon Meal Period Law

Summary

Employers must provide a 30-minute meal period for shifts 6 hours or longer; it's unpaid if relieved of duties, paid if not. Second meal period for shifts 7+ hours.

Rights & Rules

    Right to a 30-minute meal period for work periods of 6 hours or more.
  • 02.
    If you are completely relieved of all duties, the meal period can be unpaid. If not, it must be paid.
  • 03.
    Right to a second meal period for work periods of 7 hours or longer, following the first meal period.

Penalties

  • 01.
    Employers may be subject to civil penalties for non-compliance.
  • 02.
    Employees can recover unpaid wages for improperly denied paid meal periods, along with potential damages and attorney's fees.
