Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Act

Summary

Pennsylvania allows residents with specific 'serious medical conditions' to legally purchase and use marijuana for medical purposes through a tightly controlled state dispensary system.

Rights & Rules

  • 01.
    You must be diagnosed by an approved doctor with one of the 24 qualifying conditions (which include Anxiety, Chronic Pain, PTSD, Cancer, and Opioid Use Disorder).
  • 02.
    Once approved, you pay a $50 fee to the Department of Health for an ID card, which lets you buy from state dispensaries.
  • 03.
    You CANNOT legally smoke the marijuana (no combustion). It can only be consumed as pills, oils, topical ointments, tinctures, liquids, or by VAPING the dry flower/leaf.
  • 04.
    You are absolutely NOT allowed to grow your own marijuana plants at home.

Penalties

  • 01.
    Growing your own plants, or possessing marijuana without a valid state-issued medical card, remains a criminal offense in Pennsylvania.
